SPECIES CHARACTERISTICS: Evergreen, broadleaf tree.. Slow to Moderate growth rate, 30 - 50' in height, equal to greater spread. Round, spreading in shape.

FOLIAGE:Simple leaf, alternate arrangement, entire margins. Acuminate tips. 2 - 4" in size. Shiny light green in color. Juvenile leaves bronze.

FLOWER: Perfect; small fragrant, greenish yellow in color. Spring - Early Summer .
FRUIT: Succulent, indehiscent, drupe. The color is green to black at maturity. 3/8" in size. Fall - Winter.
TRUNK: Massive with age. Large trunk flair can damage hardscape.

BARK: Gray -brown, fissured into small plates. EXPOSURE: Full sun, heat; Hardiness: Sunset zones: 8, 9, 12 - 24.

SOIL:Clay, and loam. WATER: Low water need.

PRUNING: Light pruning.

PROPAGATION:Seed.

USES: Right of way, shade, specimen, the source of the oil camphora used in medicines.

COMMENTS: All parts or this tree have odor of camphor.
